LABORATORY FOR ELECTRONIC AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS (LEIS)
In cooperation with European Space Agency, LEIS provides specialized development and verification of miniaturized on-board data handling electronic systems for use in aerospace applications, including tolerant by design FPGA and IC circuits with various communication interfaces, and embedded software. In addition, we also provide capabilities for thermal cycling, electromagnetic compatibility pre-compliance tests, embedded RF design including antenna design and simulations.
TRISAT nanosatellite mission was an important step towards internationalization of the Slovenian space industry based on mutual cooperation with Slovenian university. It helps to facilitate knowledge and technology transfer between the university and the economy through innovations & technologies and with effective support service of entrepreneurship & innovative ecosystem.
In scope of this mission, a high-performance and high-reliability Analog Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm based on Perturb and Observe algorithm was developed and implemented as an analogue circuit for use on a satellite relying on solar power generation within a Low Earth Orbit (LEO). In addition, an improved High-Reliability and High-Performance Autonomous Charge Equalization Circuit for use with in Series Connected Battery Cells was developed to achieve higher energy transfers with efficiency of 88% and decrease the time required to achieve balance with less than 3 mV. Multichannel signal simulator of global navigation satellite system simulates all the necessary signals in real time and transmits them through software-defined radio. It allows simulation of several scenarios, which include simulation of static position anywhere on Earth, travelling pre-defined path and travelling of space object in LEO up to 1000 km above sea level.
